One day, as I was walking across the big square in front of the market place in Jerez de la Frontera (in southern Spain' Andalucía region), I saw this guy playing some music on an instrument that looked like a small flying saucer. It was sitting on his lap, and made the most beautiful sounds, like an entire battery of steel drums.
I went over to talk to him when he got to a stopping place and found out that he was from Israel, in Jerez to study flamenco guitar, and his instrument was called a "hang drum."
Being a filmmaker, the first thing I did was invite him back to my apartment, where I interviewed him and asked him to play for me (all on camera). The music he plays is all improvisation on his part.
Then I realized that the music had created images and a story in my mind - and presumably in his, as well. I found some great images and a wonderful actress, and this experimental short is the result.
